Responses from a previous WHP Camp

Hey Wes-

I had intended to contact you right after the Camp was over, but I got
sucked back into the real world faster and more completely than anticipated.
I want to thank you for such a great week. It was everything I wanted. I
learned a lot, got into great shape and had a teriffic time. The great food,
cool people and your patience were a bonus.

It took me longer to recover from the week's torture than I expected. I was
sick for the first 2 1/2 weeks and seriously burned out until the weekend
after 5430 (half IM). Not surprisingly, I sucked at 5430 - 5:36 with a fair
swim/bike and a god-awful run. Once recovered, however, I have experienced a
quantum leap in fitness. My 5-6 hour bike rides are cake. I am running much
faster and your swim suggestions have started to pay off (after first
requiring me to take a few steps/strokes backwards). Now, I am feeling great
about the IM. It is way less intimidating after what you put us through for
a week.
I will let you know how Ultramax turns out.

Thanks again and take care.
John

"I did a mini camp with Wes in preparation for Hawaii Ironman. During the camp, I rode with Brad Beven, Ryan Bolton, Courtney Ogden and Wes from Boulder to Breckenridge and then back the next day. Coming from Michigan, I did more hill climbing in two days than I had done in two years. I can't say I was always the 'happiest camper' during the week, but that week paid huge dividends for my Hawaii preparation. It gave me not only fitness, but the confidence and knowledge (from such great athletes) to succeed."

Alex Morton, 36 years old from Michigan. finished the 2003 Hawaii IM in 9:37 (only his second IM race ever) and he was the second American in his age group. Alex has two children, ages 2 & 4, and a supportive wife. He works 40-50 hours a week and spends 1:30 each day commuting. The pool where he trains is 20 yards long and 88 degrees. He enjoyed coming to the Mecca to train!!!

“I just wanted to take a minute to thank you and your team for an amazing
experience this weekend! You managed to provide a ton of useful information, lots of individual attention and a friendly and comfortable environment for all of us, and I appreciate the efforts you all made on our behalf. Please pass on my thanks to Karen, Joanna, Ryan, Joe, Kurt, Rob and everyone else for creating the perfect atmosphere to learn...you exceeded my expectations!
Thanks again, it was awesome!”
David Lipsius, NBC Entertainment

“Thank you again for a wonderful experience. I have been thinking about the camp all day - I ran alone this morning and felt lonely! It gave me time to think (and practice my new technique!) but what a different feeling...”
Mark Joslyn, Vice-President, Human Resources

“I wanted to take the opportunity to compliment you on this past weekend’s training camp. Although new to the triathlon world I am not new to athletics and have participated in many camps prior to yours. It was comforting to find that my money was well spent. This camp can actually be compared to a fantasy camp. In what sport can you go away for the weekend and work directly with pros like Wes Hobson, Karen Smyers, Joanna Ziegler, and Ryan Bolton? I can assure you that my training and performance will certainly increase in both intensity and efficiency based on the knowledge that I have obtained during the camp. I look forward to seeing you again soon. On our next encounter I hope to have you sucking my wheel instead of me sucking yours.”
Anthony DiMarco, New York

“Thanks again for a great camp!! I had an awesome time and I have been bragging about it ever since I got back. I definitely feel much more prepared and have been working on setting up a periodization plan from Lake Placid (my A race of the year) backwards.”
Kevin Farley, New York

Thank you all very much for putting on an excellent camp, with quality staff and great treatment for us all. Not only have I come home with some tools to help improve my form and speed, but more than that, I have come home with a huge boost in self-confidence! My first indoor track workout was awesome! My training partner, Lisa, was amazed at how strongly I was running. The thrill of being critiqued by some of the best in the sport was huge also. Anyone who will listen to me, and who knows the sport, are turning green with envy as I tell them of who I was swimming, cycling and running with.

”I am indeed looking forward to the video and analysis information yet to come so I can see it all again, as well as show it to my "coaches" so they can keep me on target. Please keep me posted on any other photos or video from the camp that may be available for purchase or otherwise. Also, keep me posted on what you come up with for other camp programs you put together, as I will both spread the word and be personally interested in any more advanced camps!?!?!”

All my best to you all, and thanks again for a great, informative weekend!!
Andy Duenow, Anchorage, AK

“You truly brought in the world’s best! Not only did you provide world class athletes, but genuine people with a sincere desire to help others achieve their highest racing and training potential. I've told so many companies, athletes, race directors, friends, etc about it."
Scott Fairchild, Manager of top pros such as Chris McCormack and Greg Bennett.

“I thought you guys did a great job and I mean that. It was absolutely one of the greatest times I have ever had. I may not admit that to my wife, but it was really cool. I would still like to do whatever I can to help you guys. If you have any other ideas let me know. Well I have to actually do some work, I just wanted to drop a line and tell everyone hi, and a huge thanks again.”
Chris Carney, Washington State
