A
Message to Athletes I Coach!
(I sent this out to the athletes I coach in
November of last year. Depending on your goals,
motivation level and desire to race and train
better, you will want to read this if you are
looking for a coach.)
Team,
We are getting into the beginning of the triathlon
season and everyone is excited about racing.
Your hopes are high, as I have helped make them
so. For many of you, I have set your goals in
reach, yet very difficult to achieve. A goal
might even be just finishing a race. Goals are
not to be taken lightly. They are the blueprints
for success.

Orca
Testimonial
“Wes,
I finally tried on my new wetsuit this weekend
and it fits soooooo nicely. The PFlex is comfy
and not nearly as tight as they'd like you to
believe. Actually, it fits better than my Ironman
suit ever did. Unfortunately, the guy inside
the wetsuit still has improving to do in order
to remain worthy of wearing it.
By the way, I took second place in the Master
Clydesdale division at a sprint tri in Effingham
on Sunday. I actually entered T2 in the top
20 overall only 1/2 mile behind the leader (who
went on to run the 5K 18 minutes faster than
me).
Regards,
-jeff”

Pilates
For Triathletes - by Hayley Sain (Pilates
in Boulder)
 |
Triathletes
are notoriously searching for ways to
improve their race splits. They buy the
most aerodynamic bikes, run in the lightest
shoes and swim in the fastest wetsuits.
Yet there is always the lingering question,
whether #1 world ranked Hunter Kemper
or a weekend warrior on a Sunday group
ride – “How can I get faster?”
If
indulging in the latest technology, nutritional
plans or spending more time swimming,
biking or running is not improving your
race, you can probably find that elusive
competitive edge from a slightly less
conventional source, Pilates. Many coaches
and athletes are drawn to the Pilates
system as it trains the body to operate
at peak performance. |
Pilates
is not the latest exercise fad used by Hollywood
celebrities. It is used by elite athletes of
all sports to help them enhance athletic performance,
improve technique and prevent injuries.

Which Dog Are You?
What
kind of dog are you at swim practice?
Do you stop at the end of the pool and
yap instead of swim? Or, are you the one
that actually swims?

WHP Athletes In Action:
Congrats
to:
* Kevin Neal – finished 10th in his age
group at Ironman Canada and has qualified for
IM Hawaii. Kevin said two years ago, he had
a dream to go to Hawaii. Since being coached
by WHP, at age 43, Kevin has taken 1:45 minutes
off of his IM Canada time.
* Regina Anzueto – took 1:40 off of her
IM Canada time
* Michael Stone – did an impressive finish
at IM Wisconsin with a personal best!
* Lynda Wacht – beat her goal time up
the Pikes Peak Ascent by over and hour and ten
minutes.
* Wes’ adventure of the Pikes Peak Ascent
Pike’s
Peak Ascent:
I
did the 50th running of the Pike’s Peak
Ascent on August 20. This was my second time
in two years. Last year I finished 10th out
of 1700. I didn’t know what to expect
before the race, so the pain of that race, mentally
and physically, was kind of …… intriguing
shall we say. Top ten received free entry so
I felt obligated to do it again. For 2005, I
actually trained, four to five hours a week,
whereas last year two hours a week was average.
I also did a lot more hill and trail running
as the majority of the race is single track
with an average of 560 feet per mile of climbing
(6,800 feet to 14,100 feet). Now that I knew
what pain I suffered last year, I dreaded even
more doing the race this year.
